... how to make my 2002 SL500 sound a bit more throatie? It's factory standard right now and very quiet - you'd never know it has a V8 engine. I don't have the funds to replace the whole exhaust system with a performance replacement like Eisenmann. Is there a relatively straight forward modification I can make to the standard exhaust to get that burble throatie sound? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi!
...Mercedes are made to be quiet! But, instead of getting a new exhaust system, you can just remove the old one'! Ha-ha.
No, another trick is to do something with the air-intake filter, put on a sporty one. That will defently make some noise change when you open the throttle. Just remove the filter for a short test and you will see. (but don't drive it too long without a filter as this will ruin the engine!)
