Here is what's up: I had a high end dealer give me an appraisal on my 1978 450SL. The car is white with Palomino interior, I believe it has always been white. BUT under the hood the engine compartment is a orange/brown color see photo. He is trying to tell me this was the original color of the car! I have never seen this color on any Mercedes. Help me set this guy straight.

 

Hello - if you were there for an appraisal, then the dealer should be able to give you a color code for the color that he believes to be the original.

 

The guy is a jerk. He wanted to buy my car and (in my opinion) was looking for things to drive my price down. So he is not going to "tell me" anything, esp. the truth.

 

That's unfortunate to hear. I think that your best bet would be to list the car in a dedicated Mercedes classified section - that way only true enthusiasts will be looking at the car and give you an honest assessment. Best of luck.
