I was washing my '90 300SL today and noticed that my rear window had a split that was starting from one of the sides. It's only about a 1/4 of and inch right now, but I'm afraid it will get worse. Is it possible to just replace the windows successfully (ie. without leaks). I hate to replace the whole top which is in other wise excellent condition because of one window.

Any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know, the whole top has to be replaced. It's not like the new soft tops with a zipper holding in the rear window. I know you can find some on EBay/Amazon. The next question would be who you trust to install it. Obviously if you want MB to install it you'll need to buy it from them which will cost you lots of $$. Or you can find a certified mechanic to do it for you. Just make sure they are use to working on MB's.

Just picking up my 95 320SL this afternoon from having a new top put on. The cost to replace just the rear windows was $800 and to have a new top put on with new windows was $1600 (do it once and do it right). This guy has been around for ever and has installed about 4-5 tops for me so far. Once the plastic gets old the top will be right behind it.
