Default Central Locking on a 92 500SL

Gentlemen,

I have read all there is reg the subject on past forums. My vaccum pump for the central locking system started to run longer than 10-15 seconds. I didn't realize that I probably had a leak somewhere. Now the pump has quit. Does anyone have a diagram of the system and a good diagnostic procedure? I have a hand held pump. I figured I should check the lines first then tackle the pump issue. Should all of the lines hold a vaccum. I have 6 lines...the clear one and the yellow/blue line does not hold a vaccum. Anyone know where they go??? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great holiday

Good luck Mooseman,

My locks are all screwed up. I don't care though because I'm selling this pos. It's starting to fall apart. 124,000 miles.

Here in New York you can access ALLDATA.COM for free in any library. See if your library has this access. If so, you'll be able to find what you need on the web site. If not, you can get the info.for about $25 bucks per year for an individual car for a year from Alldata.

Thanks for the advice and the well wishes. I'm in this for the duration. I love the car. If I can't get any help, I'll take this thing apart screw by screw and educate myself on how it works...then I'll fix it. I'll take notes as I go just in case someone else happens to run into the same issue. Given enough time I'm sure the information will be useful to some. To bad we can't get full maintaince manuels on our SLs. Already went into the heater blower and repaired a broken plastic motor retainer bracket. All of the plastic parts appear to be failing.

FYI guys

Bought a used vaccum pump from www.socalmercedesparts.com. (half the price of a new one) Found the complete diagram of the vaccum system on Alldata.com. Turns out I had a leak at the interior central locking manifold.(thats the central distribution point for the lines that lock the interior components) It's located right behind the middle console on my 92. Only one line from the pump goes to the interior manifold and the output lines branch out from there. Unfortunatly I burned out a pump before I discovered all of the above. Once you tear it apart and put it back together, it really isa pretty simple system!!
