I have recently purchased a 99 SL 500 wih a cd changer in the trunck, but when I put a disk in and push the cd on the radio, i keep getting a message thet the changer is empty, even when i put in a cleaner disk will give the same message.
Is this a typical problem with the trunk unit or should I look for an in-dash after market cd changer that I can also hook up my cell phone into and will fit in the radio space, any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

 

i have a friend with a 99 sl that had the same prob intermittently,,,finally gave up
completely...i have a 2003 that will sometimes go goofy and by ejecting the cd cassette
cart..it will reset...
i suspect if it has become a permanent problem, try removing (unplugging ) the cables at the trunk unit and wiggle them to eliminate the possibility of a corroded connection,
otherwise, replacement would probably be next step..my friend found one on ebay that i
replaced for him in about 15 minutes, you can do the same...its very easy.
he has not had any further bproblem..
or........you might consider an ipod with fm link to your radio..
