brake pads and rotors ?

2003 SL500...40K miles
close to needing new brake pads,
should both pads and rotors be changed or just pads ?

I wouldn't change rotors unless the pads went metal on metal or if you feel a vibration when applying the brakes.

thanks.... thats about what i figured.... technician said i had a few more miles but m getting close.. no vibration ..no metal..
