Default 300sl acceleration

Hello everyone
I have 300sl 24v ’91 imported from usa (in ‘96) which I bought recently. Main problem I have is that car won’t ‘accept’ gas sometimes. It’s just that sometimes I step on gas pedal it works fine but sometimes (and it can be when car is cold, hot, going up or down etc-anytime basically) so sometimes it acts as it is not able to accept the command and then I have to lift foot from the pedal and then push it back hard which makes the car start going -accelerate- instantly. It can happen on a traffic light –when it starts moving slowly making me feel like it’s chuckling or while I’m driving when it just can’t accelerate. I took it to the mechanics and computer showed no error. I think (though I haven’t been told) that fuel filter was checked too,and I know that fuel pump is ok, no leak was diagnosed anywhere and injection valves were replaced (that was the first assumption)…
Check engine lamp turns on from time to time, and I wouldn’t know if it has to do with particular problem or not…
any suggestions?

Welcome aboard. Funny you should mention the problem you have. I don't have a clue, but I also have a prblem developing. This only happens starting from a dead stop. When I press on the gas pedel, the first 15 or 20 feet the car barely moves. No matter how lite or how hard I press. Then all of a sudden the car takes off. I have a 86 300SL, with the 3.0L straight six, 103 series. I only talk to a mech. and he thinks something in the airbox (?) needs cleaning, buts wants to test drive it first. Stay in touch

It is supposed to have a whole new system. Today the car ran fine. I have a tranny with a little lever for "s" and "e" and moving the the selector to 3 or 2 makes the car drive like a straight stick. And it's pretty snappy for a 3.0 six popper.

sorry for the delays. I've written two replys but when I hit ok I would get a page telling me I was not allowed or didn't have proper permission. Like I'm trying to tell you, when the shift lever is in "D", the car starts in second gear. maybe something has to be tweeked or cleaned or something because when the tach gets up to about 1500 rpm the car takes off like a shot. Sooo when driving block to block in traffic "D" is fine. If I need quick start off I drop the lever to "3" or "2" and the car starts in first. I have to make time and get it checked.

I got knocked off the forum again. What's happening? Either it won't accept my password or when I try to reply I find I'm not logged in.
Anyway, I write it again. I drive less than 2.5 miles to work at 40 to55 mph. This is when I notice the problem. Duh- the engine is not up to operating temp until I'm just about home.
