Hello...Was the 1998 SL600 a reliable car? Does the V12 require any more maintenance that the V8? Just curious as I've been looking at 500's but the 600 prices are pretty much the same, so it's tempting. Thanks...

 

I wouldn't say my 600sl has required more maint than my V8 sls, just that the V12 is a more expensive unit to work on. I've spent about $12 in the last year on replacing the injector harness and faulty ECUs, since the V12 has two units, that was over $6000 to replace them alone. This doesn't include routine replacements of tires, worn top etc. If you buy a car that lists for $160K they expect that you can afford the parts to fix it.
