Hi....My dad just got a 1998 600SL convertible. It came with the hard top on it, but it did not come with a owner's manual. My question is.... how do you unlock the top to take it off? We pushed the red button beside the gear shift (it flashes red) but the top just pulls down a little, but it does not release the top so I can just lift it off. Is there something we are not doing right? Or am I missing a step? Also, where can we order an owner's manual online at a fairly chep price with out having to go to a dealer. Thanks in advance!!

How do you buy 98' SL600 without even trying the top operation?

It sounds like the car is going to break in half as the top unlocks, so don't get worried when you hear it.

The car is an SL600, not a 600SL. It may sound like I'm picking nits with you, but you'll run into issues when you order parts or manuals and say the car is a 600SL when it's really an SL600. The 600SL is an older model.
