1996 SL 320 Shifting Problem

I have a 1996 Sl 320 with 72000 miles, when cold it takes forever to shift from 1st to 2nd. After that car shifts without effort. Car is currently stored for Winter but am looking for direction in Spring.

It's supposed to hang up in first gear until the car heats up a little. Mine usually goes into second after about 1/2 mile at about 25 mph. It has something to do with the emissions.

Wow!!

You all are making me feel better! I just bought this model and noticed this shift problem right off the bat!! I have only 59k on it so I was hoping it was normal.

my 1999 SL500 does the same thing. except mines stay in 2nd gear and will never shift to third so i just pull over turn off the car and then back on and it is fine.
