Default 2002 ML 320, where is sensor G182? Shifting Problem...

All,
We own a 2002 ML230 that has been nothing but trouble since we bought it lightly used in 2002.
To date various dealers have done all the repair work. The cost involved is something we've had enough of...
It’s latest problem is that it won’t shift out of first gear. It won’t shift all in fact. All of the usual suspects have been eliminated, filters, fluid etc. No joy!
The most we have been able to find out is that a sensor “g182” is to blame. Our problem is we can’t figure out where sensor g182 is located.
Can anyone out there help us out?
Thanks!
mjd
PS. It’s going over a cliff before a dealer gets it yet AGAIN.
