Default Xenon Problems

I have a 2002 S430. The driver's side Xenon headlight turns off whenever the engine is running. Turn the engine off and the headlight immediately turns back on. No problems at all with the passenger side headlight. I've called about 10 different dealers and have gotten all sorts of answers-bad bulb, bad control unit, bad wiring, bad alternator, bad headlamp assembly, etc. Any advice?

Thanks for the reply. Is the control unit the same thing as a ballast? Is it manufactured by Bosch? Hella? I know that they're quite pricey so I'm considering buying a used one online. I figure I could save about $750. Thanks!

When your Xenon works normal when you turn off the engine you can conclude that the whole Xenon system works fine. There is nothing wrong with your 'igniters' (or ballast) and the lights.
The problem lies somewhere in your relais and that should not be an expensive affair.

Normally you have a wire running directly from the battery to the lights and another one to the relais. If the Xenon works you can rule out that complete section.
Don't go replacing Xenon when it is not necessary.
At least that would be my idea.
Get into the electrical diagrams and find out how the unit is switched, the problem could be much simpler that you think it is.
