Default W140 Instrument Cluster Cover

Hi

I have purchased an after market 'burr walnut' face plate for the instrument cover panel for my 1995 S500. After removal of the instrument panel, I want to remove the clear plastic lens cover so I can attach the new face plate to the existing one (with 3M tape). The problem is that the plastic cover seems to be molded to the black plastic housing. I have seen a car that has had this modification done, so I know that it is possible to seperate the two parts. Any suggestions on how to do this would be much appreciated.

thanks
Gary

it's not molded. it can be separated.

if you will look closely, you will noyice that there is an overlapping catch on it.

Hi Sleepwalker,

The only thing that resembles a catch is at the top the in centre, but there is no movement. It appears that the whole plastic lens cover is attached to the black housing in a permanent manner (glued?). I obviously don't want to force anything and break the cover. Am I still missing something??

Thanks. I have got to the stage in the diagram, but I need to go to the next step of separating the lens cover so I can affix the burr walnut panel to the instrument cover (from the front face). Any further ideas?

Advertising shop? Similar to a plastic fabricator/repair shop?
