Default sulfur smell

Use my '95 S320 for highway trips. After an hour or two at highway speeds, and particularly when going up and down hills, there is an odor of sulfur coming into the passenger compartment. It's not constant, and it goes away eventually.

I ran in past my mechanic and he could not duplicate it. Any suggestions before I take it to the dealer?

Thanks.

I've seen a thread not to long ago with the same problem. I'll look around and see if I can find it again.

Most likely it is your Cat convertors that ar going. Hit them with a hamnmer and if they rattle around they gone. Also, it could to a bad O2 or one that is going bad. Sulphur is very typical of cat failure

It's not necessarily a part failure.

Read this.

I had similar smell on VW diesel. Made me even stop on the freeway to check the chlorine I was carrying on the back.
Turned out, my MAF sensor was going bad.
With new sensor there is no more smell.

You were carrying chlorine gas in the trunk of your VW? That's a hazmat chemical. Sounds like your mind was going bad along with your MAF.

Dope.

Chlorine gas is in the news after a release of the gas at the VanDeMark Chemical complex in Lockport, NY on March 12, 1998. (There was another release in October 1998.) Chlorine is used by VanDeMark to make the poison gas, phosgene, which it manufactures in Lockport. In the March 12th incident, liquid chlorine (under pressure) was reported released from a railroad tank car after the rail car was moved along a siding without disconnecting pipes between the car and the VanDeMark plant. The pipe seal broke and liquid chlorine was released. It immediately vaporized. HazMat teams were called in and there was an emergency evacuation of a nearby elementary school.
