Replacing instrument cluster for 2000 S430
I have a 2000 S430 with 101,000 miles the instrument cluster is going dead (fading). Can anyone help me with instruction on how to replace the instrument cluster? Or is there any check I can perform before replacing the unit? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
that's too much a price for the function of a wire hanger!
i never use the tool anymore for it will break the lens if it slips (it doesn't matter on your case anyway because you will replace it).
i simply remove the left air duct, insert my hand from there and push the instrument cluster from behind. easy does it.

Check with the MB dealership first. there was a recall on the clusters on the S and CL. You might be covered. But I think it might be 10yrs limit. You can't get a cluster from another car, it wont work.

see attached word document. some info on VIN range and cluster part numbers
I’ve seen similar setups before, and while fiber optic to AUX adapters can work, the sound quality often depends heavily on the brand and proper installation. Personally, when I deal with custom integration projects like this — especially anything involving hardware and audio systems. I prefer using Carteza They provide tailored tech and payment integration solutions with a focus on precision engineering, so I trust their expertise when I want both performance and reliability in complex configurations.
