I couldn't find the exchanger hmm.. i'll keep looking, is it possible that it isn't oil at all.. and its tranny fluid? I warmed it up and I see I am low on tranny fluid.. could something rupture in the radiator to cause the ATF to get into the coolant?

are there also problems with the AT ?
Could You check, if there´s glycol in the ATF?!
Loss of ATF can also be due to other causes, visible and unvisible...
Did You check at the AT ? Are there oil traces visible?
VytamenC also described already the (engine-)oil/coolant heat exchanger.
You should see the two coolant hoses going in/out under the oil filter.
On top of the oil/coolant exchanger there is the oil filter housing screwed... You can´t miss it...
Can You actually recognize the colour of the oil in the coolant?

No problems with the AT.. infact by just driving the car, everything appears normal... all accept the burning smell of oil sometimes
How would i check to see if there is glycol in the ATF?

I can't seem to pin point the loss of ATF, i checked it about 3 weeks ago when it warmed up.. and i thuoght it was normal.. 2 days ago i checked it and it was a bit low when warmed up.

I have the M103, not M104... I don't think the M103 is equiped with an oil/coolant heat exchanger?

No, last night i took a sample of the sludgy black crap in the radiator tank, some tranny fluid and oil and compaired them side by side... the oil looked healthy, not milky .. didnt smell burnt or anything.. the tranny fluid looked normal and didn't smell either. Kind of stumped. Wheres a good place to bring it i wounder and get it analyized?

The exact level should be measured at an ATF-temperature of 80°C
You reach this temperature very seldom in the everyday life

The engine oil/coolant exchanger is not that big....

if it was head gasket then you will have milky color on your oil dip stick other, in this case since you mentioned that there is no milky sign on your oil dip stick then it cannot be the head gasket

I have a 1996 C220 with oil in coolant. No coolant in oil though. The previous owner had too much oil in the engine so I drained some out (just bought it from some one). I flushed the coolant twice and problem persists. I dont see a heat exchanger. I located the oil filter, but I dont see any coolant hoses near by, just the ones from the thermostat housing. Does this car have a heat exchanger? What other causes could it be if not a head gasket?
I appreciate your help!!!
