Extended Warranty for 2006 4matic
I would like to hear from other 2006 4matic owners about the pros/cons of purchasing an extended warranty vs. saving money monthly for when repairs may be needed.
If an extendedwarrantyis beneficial, then which are the better companies to purchase a warranty.
Thank You Very Much,
PB

RE: Extended Warranty for 2006 4matic
I dont own a 2006 S Class but have owned many many Mercedes. Every one that I have bought at a dealership I have purchased the extended warranty. I never really needed it but its more of a security thing.

RE: Extended Warranty for 2006 4matic
The Mercedes sales person was offering me a 3 year warranty for $3,700.00. He said that this warranty covered everything. He said that the company had an A rating. The A+ rated company cost $4,500.00 for the same 3 years.
It would be helpful to be informed of several warranty companies.
I appreciate the assistance, but this is beyond my area of expertise.
Thanks,
PB

"Mercedes Extended" warranties have always been better and would be my first suggestion. When you purchase any other warranty the salesman gets the commission and is out of the picture. You dont want to get caught in the middle of "this what they pay, and this is what it will cost"
Many of these "Insurance" companies fail...

RE: Extended Warranty for 2006 4matic
I spoke to a mercedes dealer and he did not mention a mercedes warranty. Can you give me the specific name of their warranty. He mention two other companies.
Also, is it feasible to purchase a warranty, if their is an uncertain likelihood that no major maintenance will be required on the s 500 sedan that is two years old at 46,000 miles?
Thanks,
PB

I have never purchased an extended warranty for any car. To start with, your car is still under the manufacturers warranty for two more years (subject to mileage). Rather than take my word for it Consumers Reports magazine has stated clearly that an Extended Warranty is not worth the money.
IF a car requires extensive maintenance the cost is usuallyabout the same as the cost of the warranty so why pay the money in one lump sum if the car never breaks or has major issues.
I have never spent the amount of money that you are talking about for any MB. If, in the next two years, you have a lot of warranty issues with your car, dump it before the warranty expires.
If you have owned the car from new have you had any issues? If not forget the warranty.
If you just purchased the car, the service centre should be able to provide you with a list of warranty issues already addressed on the car. If it looks problematic ask yourself thisAre there more problems to come or have they all been resolved? Then decide if you want to spend the money now or later. I'll take later anytime, but thats the gambler in me.
Most Canadian "pre-owned" cars are sold with a free extended manufacturers warranty up to 160,000km (100,000 mi).

RE: Extended Warranty for 2006 4matic
thank you so much for your response. This my second MB in 20 years and I wanted an updated opinion, especially about the S Class 500 4matic. You have left me with the impression that was different from the maintenance manager at the MB dealership.
It seems that you are saying that the quality of the car should be maintained if scheduled maintenance is performed. I estimate that I could drive 25,000 miles a year if I drove it weekly or 12,000 miles if I drove it on weekends and special occasions. I could reach 100,000 miles between 2 to 4 years.
I am concluding that I would do myself a good service by saving money each month in a personal account for any potential maintenance repairs.
Thanks for Your Experience,
PB
