Drivers Side Suspension 2000 S500
Help!!! I have a 2000 S500 That the compressor burn up due to a leak in the drivers side strut (Air Shok) I have replaced the compressor. I have heard you can rebuitl the strut with a kit. Is that true, and where can i get the kit? Any Help is appreciated.
I have not heard fixing a leak on a Air shock. Anyways I have a S500 that is going to go to the auction it has a rear end damage I will be able to give you the driver side shock for $700 plus your blown one so I can altleast put it on and drive it to the aution. the new one cost $1,100-300 depends on your vin#
IF the leak is from the top seal then a kit is available in the USA somewhere.
Search this site because the origin of such a kit has been listed previously.
Maybe somebody will advise where you can get it.
IF the leak is elsewhere in the strut then it is not repairable.
IF the car has done more than lets say 50k the struts should be changed in pairs.
Struts are mega expensive!
Stuart.

there is no exact limit to how many miles the strut can do it all depends on the road you drive, yes there is a repair kit and MB dealers are selling them, this repair kit is just for the top diaphram of the strut.
Hi,
When I referred to 50k I did not mean that the struts only last 50k. they should lasst the life of the car. i.e. 250k+
What I meant is that IF a strut has to be replaced for some reason then IF the strut has done more than 50K BOTH struts should be changed because the characteristics of the strut change with mileage. Like shocks wear out. RThe damping characteristics change.
Fit a new one to one side and old to the other the car MAY handle/ride oddly.
