Cheap solution to fan problems!

I bought my first Benz 2 weeks ago. The AC/Heat blower was not working at all, but I got it at a nice price so I went ahead and bought it anyway.
After doing some work on the car I found the blower fan seized and the relay on top of it melted.
The fan and the relay is about $750 from the dealer or any other place. It loks like every S class car has to go through this in its life time. I tried to lube the motor to make it spin, but it didnt work, as it was burnt out.
Now I worked as a mechanic back in the day when I was a teenager so I have some knowledge when it comes to repairing cars.
I went to Auto Zone and picked out a fan motor that whoul fit the original fan. 5 minutes later I found a blower motor that matched mine and I got it for $70. I took the fan blades off ( heating it with a torch) and installed it on the new fan motor, put it back in the original position and it works like a charm now. All I have to do now is get the $240 relay (modulator) so I can control the speed of the fan and I'll be Ok.
Idealy I would get a MB part, but paying $750 for this little problem sounds crazy.
So if any of you have this problem, find a way out, don't get ripped by a dealer who wants to make an extra buck.

I agree 100% !!!
They will screw you any chance they can get. The key is to eliminate the opportunity for them to do so by doing the work yourself.
Thats what makes this forum such an AWESOME place!
