I have a 2001 S430, with 60K miles. It has been perfect!

The brake wear warning light just came on. I know it is for the front brakes. I intend to do my own brake work. How much time/mileage do I have, before I begin to do damage. I will also be replacing the rotors. Any suggestions for where to go to get tips on making this job easier? All my brake work has been on GM cars.

you still have about 4mm left. quite safe for the next 200 miles.

replacing the rotor is just an additional job of removing the two screws of brake caliper.

replace the brake pad sensor too because the circuit is already broken.

 

Sleewalker is correct, I wouldn't wait too long.

 

Exactly as the two gentlemen above me stated..... don't wait too long ....

If you plan on replacing the rotors as well, then it's not such an urgency to replace the pads, although I recommend that you keep a good eye on the thickness of the pads so you can still stop, which can be helpfull at times.

60K miles is pretty good for front brake pad life, mine usually burn up in about a third of that time. My ML weighs probably twice is much so that's probably the difference. Also, I only use factory pads ... dust flys everywhere!

If you've done pads on a GM you shouldn't have any trouble doing your benz.

If you need any torque specs etc.... let us know.
