94 S320 Coolant leak
Hi all,
I recentley aquired a 94 S320, really like the car, has all the bells and whistles and drives well, however the steering is so light, I wonder if the steering wheel is actually connected to the wheels.
The reason I am here is that today I noticed the car was leaking coolant at a rate of knots. I did'nt mind too much as I would prefer this to loosing a small amount at a time. The problem is that when I topped up the resovoir I noticed what looks and feels like oil on the surface! Not good.
I am bringing the car to my mechanic tomorrow morning and even before I go it looks like head gasket time, mind you I checked the oil cap on the rocker cover and it is clean.
Is there a remote chance that this may not be head gasket related and by a stoke of luck, something lesss expensive.
Before I sign off, happy St Patricks Day, from Wicklow, Ireland.
Safe motoring

happy st.patricks day and welcome.
there is a possibilty that it is a cylinder head gasket or warped cylinder head.
did the engine overheated before?
another place that you have to look into is that the oil cooler. the oil and water could mix together from there. the oil cooler is on the base of oil filter housing. have them remove and pressure test it.
have them pressure test the cooling circuit to 1.5 bar. see if the pressure goes down.

Its whats called a "soft day" this morning, in other words its pouring rain.
Just back from mechanic, the leak is comming from the top left of radiator, which may or may not be related to the head and to compound matters, there is oil leaking from the head gasket area to the front.
I'm going back to the dealer (small time) today, he has agreed rectify the oil problem, so it looks like a new h/gasket and rad.
I reckon that should sort out the oil in water issue.
Thanks again, will let you know how things go.
Time to go and do some work
