86' 560 SEL Air Conditioning
Hi All,
My new 86 560 SEL was purchased without the air conditioner operating. I replace the compressor with a known working compressor and still my clutch is not engaging. I assume that the next logical thing would be to verify that I am getting current to the compressor. If I recall, I should be able to jump pin 5 and 12 on the "Klima" relay to see if the clutch is engaging. What are the other components/sensors that I should check? I do have a parts car (is this heaven or what???), that I can pull from.
Blackwolf if you read this, give me some of your knowledge, you have been right on the money in the past!!!!
Any information would be appreciated.
Also I am having electrical gremlins with fuse 5. Some times I can install a fuse other times it blows as soon as it makes contact, any common problem with fuse 5 components?
Thanks in advance.
Tom

The AC is one ofthe most complicated systems on this car.
a faulty coolant temperature sensor-cheap.
sometimes the cabin air temp sensor can be the problem-cheap.
The AC relay-moderate price depending on where you get it from.
The actual pushbutton control unit can be shot or need some resoldering on the inside and
price varies depending on new, rebuilt, or used.
Or most commonly faulty high and or low pressure switch stopped working. When either one of those sensors stop working, the AC sometimes go into default mode which is not allowing the Compressor clutch to engage.
You can jump the compressor to make sure it's working in the Klima relay connector.
If there is no current to the compressor then, check those sensors.

Blackwolf, Thanks for the info. I aqssume that the high and low switches are located on the top of the evaporator? And where is the coolant temperature switch located? I just replaced the sensor that gives the temp readout on the dash, there is another sensor just to the right of this. I believe that the one I replaced sits on the thermostat flange. I do have control over how the air is moved in the cabin, and the blower motor operates, (hot air, but still operating) on all settings. If available, if you can let me know where all of the air conditioning components are located I will begin the great swap out! Your the best!!
Thanks Again.
Tom
Thanks Again.

high and low switch is usually on the reciver/drier
coolant temp switch usually havea blue plastic around the bolt area and it's on the thermostat housing.
the ac relay is next to the fuel pump relay (Klima) (DONT GET them mixed. they not designed to fit in each other slots but some people force them in and have major problems)
Ah, yeah forgot about that sensor that sits to the right of the coolant temp switch. I forget what it does and I just replaced it because I got it for a few dollars. Mine had a plastic green ring instead of a blue one of the coolant temp sensor
