500sec 500 se engine swap?
Hi, im new to this forum as I am in the process of buying my first mercedes. My dad has a 1983 500 sec (amg?) that has been sitting for 7 years. I found a 1985 500 se for $1,400. The sec is euro and the se is american. Is it possible to swap these engines and transmissions? if so is this a good buy?
Help appreciated

the engine swap is easy as belive it or not, the 500SE is "euro" too. It was a gray market vehicle that was never offically imported to the states. Should be relatively the same engine and cpu management system. If you are swapping because on has better condition engine, then they can be swapped. You wont notice too much performance decrease/increase besides the one due to weight of the car. The transmission should be exact same.
Are you swapping the 500SE engine into the SEC or the SEC engine into the SE?

I'll be putting the se engine into the sec. The sec cought on fire and has been sitting for 7 years. The se has 190,000 miles and is being offered at 1,400 dollars. I'll be using it as a donor car. What do you think about the price? should I just rebuild the current engine instead? the fire didnt spread to far
