One bolt holds it in place towards the bottom (rear) of the battery (plus of course the two electrical connections.

Ensure you have your (correct) radio code before disconnecting the battery!

Regards,

Stuart.

too late for the radio code, i'll have to call the dealer.

how do you get to the bolt? there is no space around the battery.

do i need to remove the small pump that sits next to the battery? i assume that vents the battery?

Access (at least on my car which has a heavy duty battery fitted is simple with a socket wrench using an extension.

Pump near the battery? Mine has a battery vent attached to the battery but this is just vented to atmosphere under the car and detaches from the battery with the minimum of force.
Got a picture.
Your car appears different for some reason.

The dealer is hosing you on the price of the battery, it should be the over the counter parts price, and MB pays the labor. You should have opted for the jump which is free. The code for the radio should be in the owners manual, if not, any dealer can give it to you probably not over the phone.

the roadside asst did come out and jump it and i let it run for an hour but once i turnrd it off, it was dead. they say that is the battery.

mine does have the small vent hose next to the negative terminal and goes to outside. there is a tight fitted gray foan wedged next to the battery which covers what looks like a small pump. i assume it was to vent but it could be something entirely different.

i do not have ant space around the battery at all, cannot even see around the battery.

success, the small pump is the automatic trunk opener. that needs to come out first.

Hi,
Do you have a picture of this "pump".
Mine (w220 2000) has auto truck lid opening and it doesn't have such a device.

However I am aware that the trunk opening function was the source of much criticism and maybe some solution was found on later (prefacelift) vehicles (like yours) to address the problem.Mmaybe it is just a USA modification.
Interested in your response.
