Default 1992 S500 Misfire when warm

Hi,
Can anyone help?
I have an S500 1992/3. This problem was first noted a year or so ago. Before Xmas, the car finally refused to budge after 15 minutes driving and as usual, it wouldn't restart for several hours. It was recovered by the AA to a local garage who kept the car for 10 weeks. During this time they replaced the crankshaft position sensor, both ignition coils. Previously, the car had new distributor caps, rotor arms etc. Picked up the car, handed over some money. Seemed OK.
Started the car today, let it run from cold still OK for 20 minutes or so. Ran perfectly. Switched it off and 10 minutes later it wouldn't re-start. 3 hours later itre-started with no problem but didn't seem to be running smoothly. There was a smell of acetone, coming from underneath the car. After 20 minutes the engine ran, but still lumpy not as smooth as it was from absolutely cold. It was like it was missing on 1 or 2 cylinders. Now the acetone type smell was then replaced with (yes you guessed it!) a slight whiff of rotten eggs. [Sulphur dioxide] presumably from the CAT. When I switched the engine off, it would not re-start.
THIS PROBLEM IS DRIVING ME UP THE WALL.
There are no engine check light problems, the only fault code that the garage reported was an occasional Throttle Body error, but this was not retained in memory.
The car is too good to drive off a cliffe. However a skip has more use than this thing.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks
Piper
