1980 500SE engine crack
A few days ago, while turning around, I drove into some long grass at about 20km\h. Unfortunatley a large rock lurked underneath and with a loud crash, the car stopped on top off the rock.
The rocks destroyed the sump and creaked a crack around 15cm long at the bottom of the engine. Just after the accident, oil spewed out from udner the car at a rapid rate and I can now see that a lot of it was coming through those cracks as well as through the damage in the sump cover. So even if I stick a new sump cover back on, oil is still going to come through the cracks.
Anyone have any idea how I could fix this? I've been told that it may be possible to use a heavy duty glue to stick the cracks together. I was also told that welding the cracks is not likely to be possible.

Thanks for that. I did get some stuff which must be similar to what you mentioned(cant remember the name of what I got) and I've put a new sump pan on. Its reduced the leak from 1L per second to about 1L a week. I'm having trouble getting the airconditiong unti out of the way so I can put more of the putty over the spot thats still leaking though.
