Hi I have a 2006 ml350 the gas struts were making a squeaking. when I lubricant them it disappeared. 2 weeks later I tried to open the tailgate, the lock released it stared to move and bleep but opened about an inch then closed and locked. do you think its the gas struts or the electric motor has gone. many thanks

 

I'd say the gas struts went. They were prob going when you heard the squeak. Check eBay, they are several companies that sell them by the pair for a reasonable price. I know for my '09 there are specific struts for the power gates and are different from the manual gates.
