Default ML500

Hi I am thinking of buying an used 2002 ML500. Its an excellent car, tip top condition, one owner, no accidents, full service history, etc. The only downsize is the high KMs (123,000). The car is going for 27k (CDN) which is not too bad. Has anyone got any experiences they would like to share (good or bad) with a car with this type of mileage. I have always bought new cars (usually Acura). But thought I would try this one out for a change.

Cheers!

Karen

Karen,
I have 2002 Ml500. I would first find a mechanic to work on it for a good rate. These vehicles are expensive to maintain, and at 123K, parts are bound to need replacement. Dealers are incredibly expensive in the US, I'm assuming its the same up there. The ML is a great truck, very safe, great in the snow, loads of room. I have some paint bubbles you may want to check for on yours, look under the rear hatch release. It above the rear license plate. If it looks rusty, have it done before it get too bad. I have never had an engine problem. The fuse box cooling fan was replaced and seems to be a common issue. Brakes wear quickly, 12-15k for fronts and 18 or so for rear. Thats not many miles for a brake job. The dealer wants 750.00 US for a set installed. I found a great brake repair guy and did the entire thing for 230.00. Like I said, have good mechanics ready, it will save you big money. Good Luck

I just bought a 2002 ML500, it was $20000 USD and an extra $4000 for an extend warrenty and service plan. So $25k with tax. I think you got a good deal.

Thanks Roygrider,

I am a bit apprensive about the truck...it feels like its too good to be true....if you dont mind me asking how many miles does your 2002 truck have. How are you enjoying your truck. I like the drive...but like I said I have never driven a car in this calibre.

Thx.

Hi Karen,
My ML500 has 62600 miles on it, it had some warrenty electrical problems at around 30000miles, and that was about it. It bounces and wobbles, like a truck, as it is, but handling and power are great. I can hit the gas at aroung 50 MPH and zoom....a few seconds later I am doing 90. I love it, but a softer less bouncy ride would be nice, but the traction and AWD, make up for it. As a SUV, it will tow and handle really well.
I hope this helps, and , If you like truck/suvs, you will really like the ML5600.
