ML430 vs. ML350 and why did they stop production of ML430?
We are looking to pick up a 2000 or so ML430 for my wife or maybe a 2000-2003 ML350. What we want to know is why are the ML430's cheaper than the 350's and why did they stop production of the 430's? We are not familiar with the ML line so sorry if this is a dumb question. Thanks!

RE: ML430 vs. ML350 and why did they stop production of ML430?
I purchased the ML430 new for the wife in 1999 -
I can say without reservation, it's been the best vehicle we've ever owned.
It currently has 98,000 miles on it and still running like a top. Other than a
few pesky items after delivery, it's been trouble free. We just recently put
new plugs, wires, belt, fuel filter, front and rear ball joints, flushed radiator,
changed fluid in the trans and differentials ($2850.00). My non-dealer mechanic
says it's good for another 100K.
It's not the best on fuel mileage which probably explains why the ML350 is more
popular - 3.5L vs 4.3L.
As far as why it was discontinued... it's probably the same as any other manufacturer,
new models come out, names change....
350 vs 430? My guy at Karl Heintz Mercedes (40 plus years in biz) says that the 430's are
much better - less problematic. He works on MB's exclusively - I'll take his word for it.
Tip - don't buy one with the factory Nav System - it's the worst. I had an after-market
nav installed with XM and other features - much better.
Like anything, if it's well maintained, it will run forever -
That's my .02
Good Luck!

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it, that makes us feel a little better about the ML430. Now we just have to find one in the color she want's, red/burgundy. Thanks again!
