Default ML rapid fire door locks

It seems that my passenger door lock is "machine gunning". Does anyone know if there is a fix I can do my self by taking off the door panel? I'm a little concerned because of the air bags (2000 ML320). I'm fairly handy around the car so as long as it's not too involved I'd like to save a trip to the dealer.

Thanks!

On my ex 99ML they replaced all the locks twice because they ratcheted. There was a bulletin to only install ones that were modified, someting about a different spring. It is not an easy job since the window regulator has to come out to get the latch out. The regulators are pop riveted in and have to be drilled out, and installed, "big rivet gun". The worst car ever, but knew all the mechanics and service manager! There was a problem with the tail gate latch which would cause a door lock to go down up and then down once, they fixed that by drilling out the mounting hole a little larger. The shop forman was so happy they fixed mine since they had others doing the same thing!

My locks don't machine gun. They work normally from the console.

The problem is they WON'T lock using the key on the Driver's door.... the passenger door will unlock manually, but neither will the FOB work nor the key on the driver's door.

Ideas? Suggestions? Theories? Shy of banging my head against the door I have tried everything.

What do I repair/replace to start with? The Dealer$hip want$ WAY too much to attempt to diagnose (2 hour min for plugging it in at an unreasonable rate) THEN they will write up a repair order with an estimate.

HELP !
