Installing trailer brake controller

While discussing problems with "pairing" (a technical term) a Prodigy RF trailer brake controller with the good folks at Prodigy, they mentioned that if my ML has a "test pulse for lamp out warning" it may be difficult, if not impossible, to get the handheld in vehicle unit to "pair" electronically (via RF) with the trailer mounted unit. My question is, Does anyone know what this "test pulse for lamp out warning" is and have any information on why/how it may interfere with any other system, most specifically, electronic trailer brake controllers, and what to do about the interference?
Thanks!
Thanks!
