Default Emergency Brake Adjustment

How do you adjust the emergency brake system on the ML320? The foot pedal goes down a little too much.

The cable system is self adjusting. The self adjusting mechinism is underside of truck above driveshaft and they do get dirty. but generally are maintaince free.
The parking brake shoes do have an adjustment screw which is accessible through a lug bolt hole, and can be adjusted to take up some slack, but be warned of over adjusting! Too tight and you can create a great deal of heat! (It's not pretty). If I remember right, the offical procedure is: adjusted until tight, then backed off five clicks. Equal adjustments per side! (I think that put the pedal too low and have always gone about three clicks per side when adjusting).

What if you have just replaced the rear rotors, and now the parking brake is too tight? How do you back the brakes down if they are self adjusting? thanks for any help you can provide.

You have to remove the wheels to get at the adjustment slot on the center drum. On the driver's side, turn the rotor so the slot on the little drum is at between 3 and 4 o'clock position and you will be able to see the star adjusting wheel in the slot. Turning the star wheel CW tightens the brake shoe and CCW loosens it. Do the same on the passenger side but the star wheel is at 9-10 o'clock positon.
