Is this easy to install by yourself? I have 2001 ML320 with CD changer in the back in the trunk. Does this unit need to get in where CD changer is or other place?

 

This does not interfere with the Cd changer. It goes inside the MCS unit in dash. If you have a single CD player in the dash unit you will be replacing the Cd player with this one.
Pretty easy to do. You need two Mercedes radio removal tools to pull the MCS out. ($10 on eBay) then remove 4 screws remove existing Cd drive (there may be empty space in MCS if you have no front CD player) and drop this on. If you have no GPS antenna on the truck you will need one. Its easier to use a dash mount antenna.
As far as I know 2001 model need the voice prompt enabled by the dealer once the installation is done. About $100. If you have good contacts most dealers do it for free.
Please reconfirm compatibility with dealer before buying.
