Default ML500 Navigation CD vs DVD

I just bought a 2002 ML500 Sport. Since I will need to purchase a navigation map for my area (Southeast), someone was saying that I should get the new DVD since that would work also in my VD-based navigation system. Is that true? Will the DVD work witht he CD-navigation?
Thanks
Olaf

If it works, why would Mercedes still be selling the CD-ROM?

On my 02 ML55 the Nav System only reads CD. I have since picked up a complete DVD Nav from an 03 and swapped it out.
The tracking and update is a lot faster on the DVD Nav.
