99 ML320 Smoking badly
Hey all,
My sisters ML320 Suv is blowing out very thick, white smoke that doesn't dissipate like regular smoke. The smoke tends to come out in large clouds when the car is accelerating. We've had the car looked at by several mechanics and there is nothing apparently wrong with the engine. I am positive that it's not a blown head gasket because we had that checked right away. On top of that, the car drives as smoothly as ever and has no loss of power - the only symptom is the smoke.
The car does have pretty high miles (a little over 200xxx) if that counts for anything...
Ideas?
Thanks!
Michael

Michael,
When the car is in the operating temperature and engine off for about 5 minutes, mark exact levels of coolant (marker on the tank) and oil (pointed scrapper on the dipstick) and watch closely both levels.
Some of the 3.2L engine were known for high oil consuption streight from the factory and Mercedes has test procedure buletin about it.
Compression test will give you the true answer for your problem (worn piston rings, bad valve seals even wrong oil grade/viscosity)
0W40 Mobil1 Full Synthetic European formula should be the best and only oil in her engine. Any recent major repairs or fluid changes? Any mulfunction codes or check engine light on?
