2002 ML320 - won't crank when warmed up
When it's cold the car will crank and start with no problem. When the engine is warm (or just warm weather like it was here yesterday), then it will not crank.
I have searched various forums and came up with the CPS, but I don't know that if this is bad, it will stop the starter from engaging when it's bad. I only read that is won't allow the engine to start.
Ideas?

Thanks. I verified this early this morning while the vehicle was cold by just pulling the cable from the CPS and trying to crank the engine. The starter engaged just fine.
So, I replaced the connector, cranked & started the car, drove it home (~8 miles) and it has cranked & started each time I've tried today. Crazy.
I'm going for a longer drive after the temperature rises a bit more today and see if I can duplicate the non-engaging starter again.

Well I drove the vehicle numerous times today and have walked out into the yard and cranked and started it at least fifteen times and it fired up each time.
I just walked out to move it into the garage and now it won't crank again. Maybe it'll stay broken so I can take some measurements tomorrow and see what's going on. I'm hoping it's a dying starter/solenoid. It's too dark out now to mess with it.
