Default GL 350 CDI use of engine oil

I have a GL 350 CDI, bought in may 2012. After a month of driving I got message in the display that the oil level was low. It was just visible on the level-stick. This was explained to be normal since the car was new. Now the car has run about 40 000 km, and I got the same message. I had to refill 1,5 l oil. There are no leaks, and clean engine. The dealer still do not say it is something wrong. "Keep an eye on it". Anyone know anything about this? Where does the oil go?

How often do you change the oil?

Did you check the level after changing it?

I have had the car on one service as the car requested. This was done by the MB dealer. They have checked it and refilled the both times.

I would check the oil right after it is changed and top up, then see how many miles till the first quart is used.

From what I have read when learning about my 2008 320 CDI, my guess is 1 to 1.5 between changes is not uncommon.

I think it is 1.5 to 2 between full and the warning level.

New to this, i hope it is in the right place. I have a 320 cdi gl (v6) after i bought it from mercdes, i comented on ist use of oil. i was told it could use .9 of a ltr of oil per 1000 Km. It does, i also comented on the fact that it does not appear in any of the literature on the GL 320 cdi, just a shrug of the shoulder from merdedes was the responce. I also asked why i have a filler flap for the diesel but not one for the oil, as i have to fill both at the same time, you guessed it just a shrug! to be fair it has now done 80,000 plus miles without a problem, just a bit black in the exhaust tail pipes. it is called blow by, in the past i would not have bought a vehicle suffering this problem; but mercedes seem to have built an engine with a built in problem that will do good service.

In the past I had a diesel that would quickly consume a quart or so and then very little after that. So I ran it a qt. low and ---no more problem.
