Weir symptom while car starting
My E320 starting acting weir while start the car,the engine is make noise after the car started, the noise sound like you are holding the key after the car is start and not release the key, look like something got stuck (since I already release the key after start)
This happend mostly when I drive drive the car for a while and when I shut off the engine and restart right away, the car make noise and won't be able to start some time or it's just like the symptom I discuss able.
Other time, the car start fine for many days, so can some advise what is the issue it?, sound like starter but I am not sure
Thanks

Agree it sounds like the starter pinion/solenoid sticking.
High mileage?
If so remove, strip, clean, lubricate starter motor pinion before starter motor is damaged. Check that pinion gear is in good condition.
It's also possible that the electrical supply signal to the starter motor solenoid is "sticking" due to a faulty relay but I believe this is less likely since you state that the problem is temperature related.

The car start fine everytime the in the morning, tempature related seem like an issue on this case too, IF I drive a car in trafic too long then shut off the engine and I could not start right away, I open the hood and less it cool for a while, then I able to syart the car. SO can you tell me if this is starter issue?
Thanks
Thanks
Hi,
I replied to your post but you seem to have changed the symptoms.
What sort of noise?
Is the motor turning over when you turn the key or just spinning?.....or maybe you are now referring to a misfire or something once the engine is actually running.
Need clarification of problem.
Model year, mileage, last service?

Car is E320 1999 with 90K, oil change regularly, recent change spark plugs / wire (DYI), 2 cat just replace by dealer ($2100)
while start the car, engine turn, starter turn, car fired then whining noise, the sound like you are holing the key pass the starting mode in the ignition when the car already start but you don't release the key, engine run for a few second and then shut-off.
I open the hood for 10-15 minutes, start again and no problem at all. I have no issue to start the car in the morning

As I originally stated it sounds like the starter pinion/solenoid sticking especially since car has done 90k.
