Default W211, e200, gearbox issue, emergency mode

Hi All,
I have the following problem in my W211 / E200 / 2003 / 1.8 Petrol / automatic transmission / VIN: WDB2110422A276177:
Since I bought it 8 months ago I could always feel a little 'jerk' when the gear changed from 1 to 2. About a week ago, I was driving already for around one hour, stopped on a traffic lights and then noticed that the temperature reached 100C (which never happened before). When the traffic lights changed and I tried to accellerate I noticed that the car has almost no power: it barely started, drove for 20m and then stopped. The engine was running but the gears were not changing.
I switched the car off and on again and it drove for another 20m and stopped with the same symptoms. I tried to change the gears manually (tiptronic) but to no avail. Seems that the car switched itself into emergency mode. The Engine diagnostic indicator lamp went on. I switched it off for 10 minutes, on again and it drove for another 1km before stopping again. I managed to get home by switching it off, waiting 10 minutes each time and switching it on again.
I brought the car to the garage ther following day. They connected it to the computer and found the following error codes:
Code001:
2221 [a0, 6,22, 21]
Please refer to relevant technical manual
Code002:
2502 The gear is implausible or the transmission is slipping.
Code003:
220a [a0, 6,22, a]
Please refer to relevant technical manual
Code004:
2500 [a0, 6,25, 0]
Please refer to relevant technical manual
I'm basically looking for a second opinion as those mechanics suggested fixing it for a small fortune...

Could anyone advise?
Thanks!

most likely its the conductor plate. above the valve body. very common. could be something else too. sometimes trans fluid can work its way up into the trans control unit and cause various problems too
