Default Tie Rod? If I can pull on the tires and hear a click....

i have a 94 E320 ... bought it mostly for the safety features for ima stay at home dad.

when i get up to speed 55 - 70mph it seems like i have alot of sway...

then when i pull on the tires i hear a click as if the wheel is shifting a couple centimeters...Is that a Tie rod? Ball Joint? Wheel bearing? Im unsure, and would like to have help here b4 i go anywhere else...

thx

Default RE: Tie Rod? If I can pull on the tires and hear a click....

if your pulling straight out while grasping both sides of the wheel, than probably wheel bearing. the sway makes me think bearings too, but also check ball joints and tie rods. for ball joint, jack the car until the front tire is off the ground, then have someone lift against the bottom of the tire with a pry bar while you watch the ball joint. if you can see it move up and down at all, then it needs to be replaced. for tie rods, keep the tire off the ground and turn it back and forth. it should turn smoothly, and not clunk when changing motion.
