Default Squeaking Shocks 1995 E320 Wagon Self Leveling

1995 E320 wagon with the self leveling rear shocks, mine are sqeaking badly. The passenger side is worse than the drivers side. The shocks are $500. each and do not look like a qucik switch by any means. Is there a another alternative to using the Mercedes shocks. Can conventional shocks be used and the fluid lines be capped off? I would appreciate any help.
