sport shocks go with lowering springs

and I would match Vogtland with Bilstein - closer to stock ride quality

if you head to Bilstein web site, you'll see that the HD is closest to MB ride, though 10% more compression and rebound dampening. The physical length is same as MB, ie for factory issued spring/ride height. With the SPORT shock, it is physically shorter than HD, and designed for use with many of the lowering springs which provide approx 1.25+ inch drop. The dampening is a little firmer than HD as well.

If you use the full length HD shock with lowering springs, immediately it robs the shock with that amount of travel right off the bat...approx 1.25-1.5". Upon full spring compression (high speed, dips in road, potholes, etc) it is possible to bottom out the shock given the now, much shorter available travel. The SPORT shock is designed to minimize this problem.
