[:-]I recently bought a 2001 E320 this is my first Benz So far I love it. BUT Everyone has told me differently as to when to have the oil changed and with which oil and grade. Do I have to go to a Benz specialist.

your owner manual should give you direction on oil, type and frequency. check that first and if you still have questions, repost. I change the 1999 and 2000 E320s myself, old school method, and buy filters and oil in quantity for lowest cost. drained oil is brought to auto supply store (free) for recycling.

Definatly dont have to go to MB they cost so much, i think just use good quality oil, i use mobile one 0w-40 and change a friend at the garage changes it for me for a drink i do it every 5k miles but u prob dont have to do it that often, new oil never does any harm at all, only good, but unless ur minted dont need to go to benz dealer.

I agree. I use Amsoil 5W-40. Mobil 1 and Pennzoil have great options for Syn oil too. Ignore the FSS indicator on your dash. It does more harm than good. I run about 7500 miles between oil changes. Buy the filters online in bulk, buy a oil filter removal cap/tool - it's cheap and do it yourself. I bought a liquivac and it works like a champ. The detailed instructions on how to do it are all over the net and once you do it yourself one time you will wonder why in the world you would pay someone over $100 for a simple oil change. Never ever go to the animals at a quick lube place. They are clueless and will definately do damage to your car. You can't go wrong with Synthetic oil. It costs a few bucks more, but make sure that the grade is specified in your owner's manual. Best of luck to you. Save money and get that sense of satisfaction that comes from working on your car yourself![8D]
