Default Seat belt warning on E270CDI 2002 model

Hi all, newbie here!

I have a 2002 E270CDI Avantgarde which has been in for looooooads of warranty work (far too much to mention here) but one of the big issues has been the battery drain when the car is left in the garage for a few days, MB have eventually found the fault after literally taking years to rectify, they found it was the motors in the electronic seats, these have been replaced and the problem has been rectified, BUT! I now have a problem where the seat belt warning system doesn't work as it did before..... but this is where I need one of you guys to help me!!!

MB cannot clarify exactly what the seat belt warning system should do on a 2002 E270CDI, so is there anyone out there with one of these model cars that could please just clarify what the car does when the occupant doesn't put their seat belt on? (obviuosly don't put yourselves or others in harms way with this experiment!)

Please could someone just tell me what happens when the driver and passenger get in the car and don't put their seat belts on with the engine running, it was my remembering that the car flashes a light on the dash for so many seconds then after a preset period an alarm bongs from the dash to remind you to put your belt on.

Any help on this one gratefully received !!!

Many thanks,

Simon.

Default RE: Seat belt warning on E270CDI 2002 model

on USA version, the seat buckle got switch. it is always considered that the driver is there, and it will remind you to fasten it.

the seat belt tightens in up to 3 stages depending on the force of impact (G force). without the seatbelt, airbag isn't much of help.

under the passenger seat is a "seat occupancy (mat) sensor. it can detect if a child seat (transponder) or somebody is sitting there and will remind you to fasten the seat belt. without the passenger or with the child seat, the airbag won't deploy.
