My dad has a 1995 E320 and I was just curious about the engine.

Does it have a VTEC-type valve timing change around 4500 RPM? I was getting on the expressway a few days ago and noticed it got louder and faster around 4500, like Hondas do when their VTEC kicks in.

Also, a few months ago at idle with no radio on, the intake snarl is way more noticeable than it used to be. The mechanic took a gander inside a few months ago for an unrelated problem and said it was clean as a whistle. The more pronounced sound seemed to appear overnight. Just curious.
