Part Question
I have a 1997 E420 and a clamp on the air filter unit broke. There were 2 clamps on mine. The first is a normal circular hose clamp that attaches the plastic hose to the air filter housing towards the front of the car. The second is a rectangular plastic clamp, with a screw to tighten, that attaches the plastic accordian end of the hose to the large solid plasic cover on top of the engine. This second clamp broke and I went to the dealer. Their diagram does not show this clamp; it only shows the metal hose clamp towards the front of the car. They show everything behind the front clamp as a single unit, with the accordian end of the hose permanently attached to the plastic housing above the engine. This whole unit costs $318. They said the rectangular clamp on mine must have been added on by a previous owner. I don't think so - it looked like a mercedes manufactured part to me. Anybody out there have a clamp of this type on their car? It was 4 or 5 inches long, 1-2 inches high, with a tightening screw on the top. Thanks.
