I don't know about these late models but from personal experience I will say that early 90 models are not great from a mechanical aspect....mostly engine managment things...perhaps they cleared that up by the 2000s'..the fit and finish however is excellent. I say this in comparison to BMW, where the engine is outstanding yet the trim leaves alot to be desired...if only MB and BMW could get together...It could be the Rolls of Germany..

We have updated results for the E-Class to include owner experiences through March 31, 2010. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:
2010: 56, about average
2008: 36, better than avearge
2007: 80, about average
2006: 71, about average
2005: 79, about average
2001: 181, worse than average
Small sample sizes for the 2001, 2005, and 2008.

201,000 miles and counting... original transmission... some recent tranny work (connector plate / pin /fluid - still going strong!

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:
2010: 59, about average
2008: 37, better than avearge
2007: 100, worse than average
2006: 65, about average
2005: 85, about average
2001: 150, worse than average
1999: 145, about average

Starting this month we have a new question to measure, as objectively as possible, the severity of a problem. Many people have been asking for reliability stats that weight problems by how severe they are, and once we have enough responses with the revised survey we'll start providing this.
Also, updated reliability stats this month.
As always, the more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

Because existing sources of auto reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.
So far over 140 E-Class owners have signed up. While no model year has reached the minimum sample size needed to include it in the main survey, a few (2003, 2005, 2006, and 2007)are about 2/3 of the way. The 2008 is about half way, but since the model year is only half over I'll include it next month if just a couple more 2008 owners join.
Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members receive full access to the results for free.

Hi, also new to the forum.
I have a 2005 E class 280 diesel with 33000 miles.
Until recently I had had very little to complain about. Last week there was a lit icon on the fascia that has been diagnosed as inlet manifold probs. The garage has warned that there may be a £1000 + bill. Scary.
I have also been told that there may be a suspension prob at the front.
This is all very disappointed as I have had the car from it was just 8 months old and I treat it like my baby.
