Default Intermittent temp gauge and elongated start

Hello all.

I have a 99 E320 4 MATIC that I picked up for one of my children as commuter car for school.

other than the issues listed below, the car runs like a top.

we own a few MBs as does my mechanic and we’ve never encountered these two issues simultaneously.

Since I brought the car home I have encountered an intermittent temperature gauge, when the gauge is not registering a temperature report, the car engages in an elongated start that requires a feathering of the gas pedal to get it to fire on every start except the initial start for the day.

she fires right up when it has been sitting overnight.

when the temperature gauge is working, the car fires right up every time.

I had codes P0115 ECT & P0455 changed the ECT sensor and still encountering the gauge and starting issue.

flushed and changed the coolant and replaced the thermostat & housing.

removed and sent off the ECM to be tested/repaired.
ECM tested fine and was returned.

Installed new plugs and wires along with valve cover gaskets.

new fuel pump and filter.

new crank position sensor.

new battery.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
