RE: intermittent stalling
There is another guy with this same problem at present on a SLK 230.
Not sure how similar your vehicle is to his however since it is much earlier.
Generically speaking,
Ist suspect is fuel pump relay situated in the engine electrics box.
2nd suspect is Crank Position Sensor located on bell housing.

RE: intermittent stalling
I know very little abouit such an early car. My knowledge is of a more generic nature.
The fuel filter is usually situated adjacent to the tank and beomes visible with the vehicle on a ramp or possibly with a wheel off. However it could be elsewhere on your car . I just don't know.
A CPS is a sensor that determines the angular position of the crankshaft. i.e. vs Top Dead Centre. This is required in order to tell the engine management system......not sure what level of electronic wizardry your vehicle has......when to fire the spark. UIsually situated on the bell housing or sometimes near the crank pulley. Are known to give problems once warm or subject to vibration, although the problem can actually be due to particle build up on the tip sensor which can be wiped off.
