Default Interior Fan / Blower intermittent

The interior fan on my 2001 E 220 CDi is doing funny things. When I start the car the fan sometimes comes on and at other times does not. Moving the fan speed dial makes no difference. After a while it begins of it's own accord, but sometimes stays off for ages.

1) The fan is quiet when operating and when it is working, is adjustable up and down as it should be.

2) Is there a sensor inside the car which feeds info to air conditioning? The car has been in the bodyshop recently and got very dusty inside.

That's about it. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Richard

sounds like you need a blower speed regulator

If it works OK intermittently it might be a poor connection where the wiring plugs into the motor from the control unit. Its a common problem on older cars, the spade connectors have a sort of spring fitting and it often overheats due to the current loading loosing the firm connection it once had. I have had this problem on a couple of Mercs in the past.
Worth a try and its cheaper than replacing the regulator first

Hi i am new and have the same problem. Blower works some times and not others. The car is a 1991 300E.
Did you find the solution to your problem? What was it?

Thanks,
